Intro:

The Black Bullhead is not usually a desired catch. They don't grow large and are often known as bait stealers. They are relatively common though and occasionally are fun to catch.

Habitat:

Like other catfish, Black Bullheads are associated with the bottom of the bodies of water they are found in. They usually inhabit areas of heavy cover. They can be found in rivers, creeks, lakes, and ponds.

Spawning:

Spawning occurs in late spring to summer in natural caves where the fish make nests.

Diet:

Black Bullheads consume many different organisms as part of their diet. They eat insect larvae, small fish, Cray Fish, and scavenge.

Size:

Generally Black Bullheads are small and usually around a foot. Occasionally you can catch a large one of about 2 feet and a couple of pounds.

Keeping In Aquaria:

Possible and usually easy. The fish are prone to Ich and other skin parasites. They can usually adapt to prepared foods.

Gaming Qualities:

Bull Heads if large enough can be fun to catch. They are fun on light tackle.

Fishing Tips:

Bottom fishing using worms usually works the best. Be careful when taking the fish off the hook. They have extremely sharp fins and are known to bite.
